Visual Vocabulary: Morass

Morass: a soft, wet area of low-lying land that sinks underfoot. As in, "Richardson went to cross the muddy thoroughfare and nearly sank to his death in the morass. Luckily, some men in the camp were able to pull him out with his trusty antler."

Visual Vocabulary: morass, Julie Rado Design

Have you guys ever watched Deadwood? If not, you should. There's this wonderfully toady tertiary character named Richardson. I told Scott I was definitely going to feature him in an upcoming illustration. I think I did a fairly good job, but nothing compares to the real thing.

I also couldn't help but think of this Some Ecards making its way around Pinterest lately. I recall being very afraid of quicksand after watching Swiss Family Robinson and asking my parents how to get myself out of it if I ever accidentally stepped into a quicksand bog while going about my daily routine.

Whether quicksand or morass, I hope you have a lifetime of avoiding both.

Visual Vocabulary is a project I created for myself in which I attempt to sear new words into my memory by illustrating them. You can see all of them here, and read more about the process behind them here.
