Congreso’s 2014 Gala Latina was titled “Quisqueya la Bella: The Beauty of the Dominican Republic.” Congreso really wanted to use the faceless dolls of the Dominican Republic (who are faceless to represent all of the racial groups on the island) and a beachy, upscale resort feel in the designs of the Gala materials.
We started by creating the logo for the event, illustrating a stylized orchid, as “quisqueya” means orchid in Spanish. From there, we illustrated a faceless doll holding the flower as the design for the save the date postcard. We translated the flat illustration style into more illustrations of beach scenes with a cabana, umbrella drinks, boats and palm trees for the accordion fold invitation. The flip side of the invitation showed water meeting the sand and the event details.
