Mastery Charter Schools Campaign

BACKGROUND

In the years since the pandemic, Mastery Charter Schools of Philadelphia and Camden noticed that attendance was slipping, students weren’t wearing their uniforms, and the turning-in of homework was rather lackluster.

They wanted Untuck’s help to come up with a logo and supporting graphics for an inspirational campaign dubbed “To the Top Together” that would encourage students to improve in all three areas and would live on bookmarks, flyers, and posters to be distributed throughout the school year.

We originally played around with the idea of illustrating mountains, but quickly realized that for city kids, that didn’t necessarily make sense—so rather than mountains, I switched to illustrating skyscrapers of Mastery polo shirts, towers of books, and attendance sheet structures amidst silhouettes of Philadelphia’s City Hall and Camden’s Adventure Aquarium. The results? Attendance and uniform compliance are up, and the schools have the addition of some fun artwork in their hallways. Win-win-win.

A stack of papers that say "present" with a check box, a stack of shirts, a stack of books with a pennant that says "To the top together" on a blue background with white clouds
Flat lay scene of bookmarks that say "Gear up. Show Up. Step up" along with a book, pencils and apple
Flyers that say "Step up" and "To the top together" on a green background

After some brainstorming, I came up with the tagline “Gear up. Show up. Step up.” The tagline fit in perfectly with the idea of reaching the top together and it also lent itself to the campaign logo I created, a pennant-style flag.
