PAIR Center at Penn Website
BACKGROUND
The Palliative and Advanced Illness Research Center (PAIR) at Penn had outgrown their website, feeling that the dated and inconsistent UI no longer aligned with the Center’s current direction.
The old site wasn’t effectively communicating the breadth, frequency, and impact of their work. We used the information from our research and discovery to create a new design that was more intuitive to use while surfacing the most recent research and impact. We did all this while also creating content connections for researchers and leaders in the field of palliative care to discover more of PAIR’s work.

As part of the discovery phase, I co-led a remote workshop with their team.
We focused on setting a vision for the new website, understanding user perspectives, organizing content, and building consensus on PAIR's personality and voice.
Together, we decided to steer the visuals of the site far away from the expected look of medical or palliative care.
PAIR wanted the overall feel to be unexpected and modern to reflect their own approach to their work. Using layered patterns and photos, a modern sans serif typeface, and a vivid, warm color palette allowed us to bring a sense of approachability while also conveying their authority as experts.
